Day Two:
We have now officially left Europe and have entered the Asian part of Russia! We passed through Omsk today and now onwards to somewhere less pronounceable! Our Swedish friends are on the train in the next carriage and Sven turns out to be called Marcus. Helga is still Helga for now although it's not her name!!
You would think being sat on a train for days we would have lots of blog written by now! It's not that we have been madly socialising or sleeping, we have just been relaxing!
It's fun just working out what time zone your are in! The train and timetable are on Moscow time but we have already crosses 3 time zones in 2 days and we are now 3 hours ahead... So when the timetable says 6pm arrival it's actually 9pm... Very confusing but you get used to it and it's good practice for me working out the time in England when I am in Perth!
So far we have done the following:
Played cards (solo and against each other)
Taken photographs
Read magazines
Read kindle (Sally)
Read Trans Mongolian railway book
Looked out of the window
Played Football Manager (Dan)
Worked on Sally's CV
Made coffee
Made lunch (see below for details)
Washed cups and plates
Slept (in the day)
Slept (at night)
Tried to work out were people are from in our carriage (Dutch /Russian/ American/ English)
Washed ourselves with baby wipes
Played hangman
Walked 2m along the platform at each station stretching our legs
Made our beds (folding down the back of sofa)
Making our sofas (folding the back back up!)
So far we have eaten:
Porridge
Pot noodles
Cup-a-Soup
Tuna and tinned sweetcorn tortilla wraps
Sardines and sweetcorn tortilla wraps
Sweets
Chocolate
Banana and tinned pineapple
Salami
Gherkins
Vodka
Dolomades
Thing bought from woman selling food which we think was a doughnut filled with meat and cheese like a hamburger patty or something (amazing!)
So all in all, it's been pretty relaxing and we have had lots of fun. We have loved the relaxing and having our time to just do nothing!!
Oh and I have cut myself twice on our pocket knife already! Sally is convinced I will cut off my finger before we get to Perth!
One more full day on the train and then we wake up to the train pulling into Irkutsk. I challenge all readers to google it and look at some pictures, we are very excited!! I appreciate all these train blogs will be published one off the other when we get wireless so well done for persevering!
Night all xxxx
