Hanoi, Hoan Kiem District, Vietnam
It's day 2 here in Hanoi and what an amazing time it's been! Needless to say the flight was long and bum numbing. Once we got here after 24 hours of travelling all we were interested in was sleeping! We did go for a short walk in search of food and of course being Pooles we over ordered.
Today after getting a good nights sleep we were taken to see Ho Chi mins mausoleum. We weren't expecting to actually see his body, so that was a surprise! After seeing the presidential palace/house and uncle Ho's house we went to the museum of fine art which had lots of old statues/screens/drums and loads of Buddhas. From there it was a short walk to the temple of literature which was the university built in1010. We did have to cross the road which was terrifying as zebra crossings seem to be completely ignored, you just cross and hope all the scooters and motorbikes weave round you!
The temple of literature was very old which of course I loved. Lots of stone turtles with tablets on their backs which were roped off, however, loads of teenagers were sneaking in and touching the turtles heads as they are very sacred and represent longevity.
The temples had loads of offerings of flowers, incense and paper money. The money's burned to give wealth to their ancestors.
After our guide took us to a restaurant for some noodle soup. The Vietnamese love noodle soup and have it for breakfast and lunch. It's also very cheap! 5 beef noodle soups, 6 drinks and spring rolls £16! Dinner last night was about £45 and we had about 11 different dishes! So far all the food we have had has been great, no fried insects or snakes!
