Well, i guess our luck had to eventually run out with the weather. Rained all day !
We spent most of the day on a bus tour but we still got to go to Macy's, Madison Square Garden and the Empire State Building. We decided not to go to the top of the Empire State because we got told there was virtually no visibility due to low cloud.
In the evening we went to a place called "Serendipity's" that supposedly has the best Sundaes in NY. They were enormous and you can actually buy a Sundae for $1000 from this place.

Raining again ........ heavier than yesterday.
We went to FAO Schwartz, the toy store with the floor piano from the movie "Big". We tried to brave the weather on top of the open double decker bus, hoping to see more by using the free ponchos provided. BAD IDEA. Leanne, Josh and I got soaked. Emily was the only smart one, she stayed down stairs.
The weather did clear up later in the afternoon and we got off the bus in Chinatown and walked to the Brooklyn Bridge and went halfway across and then back to Manhattan.
We went to the top of the Empire State at about 8.00pm and although it had stopped raining, it was still cold and windy and the visibility was not 100% beacause of the cloud that was going past. Regardless it was still a great experience.

Today we had to drive from New York to Washington DC. This was the one day i had been dreading as i was unsure if driving out of the middle of Manhattan was such a good idea. Spending the previous 4 days in New york and seeing first hand how the traffic was did not help the situation.
It turned out OK. Even though the GPS wouldn't work when we first got in the car, i knew which general direction the Lincoln Tunnel was and once we got over to New Jersey the kids had reset the GPS.
The drive was about 3.5 hours and we went through the outskirts of Baltimore and some real pretty country as we came into Washington DC.

Washington is an amazing place. Heaps of monuments and statues.
We went to the Thomas Jefferson memorial, The Abraham Lincoln Memorial, The Washingtom monument and Arlington Cemetary. We saw JFK's gravesite and his brothers Robert and Edward's. We also saw the grave of the unknown soldier which is guarded 24 hours a day 365 days a year. We stayed to watch the changing of the guard which was pretty impressive. When we were at the Washington Monument a motorcade with about 6 police bikes, 3 big black Limos and 4 Police SUV's came screaming past us. We tried to take phtos and video but we were too late. We don't know, but we would like to think we caught a glimpse of a presedential motorcade !!

Today we went to the Washington Cathedral (2nd largest cathedral in USA) and we also went to the White House, The WWII memorial and the to the Capitol building.
Washington is a very pretty place and well manicured. The autumn leaves certainly enhance this.
Tomorrrow they are forcasting rain so we are doing the Smithsonian museums (we have learnt our lesson from NY !!)
Will update in a few days
