Ria's Travels around USA!!!
Hay everyone!!!
First let me say thank you so much for your messages, very touching :-)
(tear tear)
and secondly OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS AUGUST!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where have the days gone???
Anyway....
So...New Orleans....
Arh I tell ya what...it was so touching to drive into. After that hurricane we all seen on the news a few months back (maybe a year or so actually??) there was still so much devastation about :-( all the streets and houses were empty because of all the water damage, it was like driving through a ghost city.
It really pulls on your heart strings. If I could I would of loved to have stayed to volunteer and help in a small way.
Its so sad to see, just makes you appreciate what you have so much more.
On a brighter note...New Orleans has an area called the French Quarter, that was really nice, alot of work has been done there so you wouldn't think it was the same place. The town was so colourful and quirky: Every house on each street was painted a different colour, it looked so kewl-definatly a place for JAZZ!!!
New Orleans is known for its jazz, alot of famous jazz players were from here... and all around the town there were pictures, instruments, monuments reminding everyone about the jazz aspect, it was so good....
Was actually a breath of fresh air to go some place different....
Also it was nice to go back to a state where I was doing the whole tourist thing, rushing round trying to see everything and take pictures. Florida was way to chilled out to be doing all that :-) and New Orleans has some really sweet places. I went to....
- The Old US Mint....Where New Orleans holds its Jazz collection and tells the story of jazz
- The Old Ursuline Convent......The oldest building in the Mississippi valley (A Random fact for you there...)
- The French Market....That was sweet, they had all these pretty little stalls that sold all sorts of frenchy stuff :-)
- Cafe Du Monde....This was a little cafe on the outskirts of the French Market that sold square doughnuts. YUM YUM :-)
- Jackson Square.....A cute little garden and walkway where they normally have musicians playing music and stuff, unfortunately no one was there worth seeing when i went....just a drunken guy singing Elvis songs :-) great!!! (Actually 2 be fair he was quite good) hehehe
- Bourbon street....where they sell deadly cocktails, also known as a street of sin, was good 2 walk down but didnt dare to try any of them... would blow my head off
- Royal Street....Very trendy
- Aquariums of the Americas....seen all sorts of stuff. touched a baby shark and a star fish! HOW BRAVE AM I. hehehe. very weird :-)
- 632 St Peters Street...this was a sweet little apartment where Tennessee Williams wrote his famous play 'A streetcar named desire'
- I Went to an IMAX theatre, that was kewl. The biggest screen i've ever seen n the show was 3-D...very weird. but very good.
- Hurrahs...which is the biggest casino I have ever been in... (obviously vegas will top it) I kinda walked in by mistake looking for a cash machine n found myself in here! MASSIVE!!!! Roll on Las Vegas, got me well excited...
and I think that was about it. So there was definatly alot to do. It was a really nice day to be honest, absolutely boiling .... although I got caught in a massive thunderstorm...that was funny! people were looking at me as if i was green, cus they all take shelter and wait for it to stop, but i was on a right mission, I had the whole town to see in a day...so i was just walking through it like I was glad :-) hehe. (regretted it after tho...slush slush)
LL Cool J was playing in New Orleans that night, but it was a bit expensive and i don't know to much of his stuff so i didn't go. Still wana see someone famous tho :-(
The hostel I stayed in was really nice, like going to grandmas house cus an old black couple ran it and it had a lovely Caribbean feel to it. Very homely and cheap so that made it better :-) hehe.
The only downfall to New Orleans was I was eaten alive by bugs :-( honestly... I lost count at 160 bites!!!!!! and i wish i was joking :-( not taking an risks now tho, brought everything the chemist has to offer :-)
hehe
well everyone, that was New Orleans, hope you like the pics, i'll get them on here soon. Grand Canyon next.
whoop whoop.
Speak soon
