We're on a small island called Gili Trawangan (there's three of them in a row and they're all tiny - the one we're on is about 2k by 2k and it's the biggest of the three). There are no sealed roads and no motorised vehicles which is quite a novelty and quite surreal. Also, every now and then the power for the entire island goes off and you're left in the middle of the main dirt track in complete darkness!! The only traffic is bycicles and the odd horse and trap. I saw a horse not much bigger than a Shetland pony pulling a cart containing a Coke machine the other day, which seemed a bit cruel for the poor little horse. Maybe they are stronger than they look?....
Anyway, we've done some snorkelling around all three islands and that was really good - we saw some big turtles and lots of different types of fish and marine life. The islands themselves I think have suffered a bit from hap hazzard development (piles of cement bags/concrete blocks on the what used to be beautiful beaches) which is a shame as I think afew years ago they had a reputation for being very beautiful and unspoiled. They are still very nice in some places though.
Unfortunately we have suffered a couple of minor inconveniences over the last few days - we both have some EVIL stomach infection, and I have managed to fall down a hole. My left leg is all cut up and purple and yellow on the thigh, but it's not broken, but I'm having a bit of difficulty walking (but never mind as there's not much ground to cover!). Also, an ant bit me right on the cut the other day, which really made me jump!!! At least it keeps Lindsey entertained!!
We're off to Seminyak/Kuta in Bali next for a bit of a faster pace and hopefully try and improve our surfing....over and out.
