Hello Hello!
Well to begin I arrived all well and good in Christchurch! I went straight to my hostel which was not in the best part of town, sirens from an ambulance and cops every few minutes, but oh well the hostel was like a share house very nice inside. I set out that same day I landed to see the Cathedral in the town square, it was magnificent. Big wooden archs for the roof and stone walls, it was quite peaceful inside. I also have some photos of the millenium monument ( I will get photos up asap but this hostel in Queenstown doesnt allow me to upload them). I then retired for the night.
The next day (tuesday 16th Dec) I set off to the gondola just out of town on Mount Cavendish. The ride up was impressive and once I arrived at the top the view over Christchurch and its neighbouring town, Lylltleton was spectacular! (Again photos asap hahaha). I then went on a walk from the peak and was alittle confused about which path I was on, I realised about half way down the mountain I was headed toward Lyllteton (which is where I did not want to be) so I back tracked and eventually found the correct walkway and found the lookout I was after. So i then ventured back into town and did a proper walk of the city itself. It is a small city but has everything; a tram, church, scupltures, gardens, spanish inspired street, nice old buildings, funky cafes and ofcourse bars! And of course 'the wizard', a public speaker who only appears occasionally in the town centre and I was lucky enough to catch him, it was more a well crafted skit than anything but very interesting. He talked about what was wrong with the world and why it is being percieved upside down, literally!
Then I will move onto Lake Tekapo tomorrow!
