Well, the hostel was cool and people were nice. G had to listen to someone throwing up on Sat night but apart from that, everyone behaved themselves and they made pancakes for brekkie!
Bariloche itself is bigger than the other towns we have seen in the lake district and not pretty but there is loads to do around it and we had perfect sunshine.
We took a tour to see Tronador, an area famous for its black glacier and glacial waterfalls - see photos. The black glacier was stunning but the gigantic persistant flies were bugging G (he is almost phobic) so that tainted it somewhat for him. Then we walked through forest for a couple of hours to a beautiful viewpoint, where a glacier is on top of a ridge with several waterfalls below it. The walk itself was a bit dull as there was nothing to see (I think we've been spoilt already on this trip) and once again, flies were a problem, but for me the view made up for it. Not sure it did for G and at one point the words "give me the volcano any day" were uttered which was crazy talk in my opinion but shows how much he hates flies!
The following two days we hired a car and went on a little road trip around the area, it's unbelievably beautiful. First stop was a chair lift which had the most stunning panoramic views of mountains and lakes. It was great to have the freedom to go where we liked with the car so we stopped at some lovely spots on peaceful lakes, and spotted a great little roadside restaurant for lunch with more stunning views from its terrace. Moving on we headed for a town called Villa de Angostura where we intended to spend the night. The route to Angostura involved driving along roads that were worthy of a Top Gear road trip. Before we went for dinner I persuaded lazy bones to get back in the car and we headed down to a beach and a bar called Sunset Bar - a bar overlooking a gorgeous lake, playing some chilled out music and serving beer. A perfect end to a lovely day.
The next day we drove the Siete Lagos (seven lakes) route. Again stunning scenery but a lot longer in the car and half of that was spent on gravel roads. I didn't realise quite how much concentration that would take so I was knackered when we finally got the car back to Bariloche at 7pm and there were a few heated moments!
Quick change and we headed out to meet Dan and Doris (the Americans who sold everything!) for dinner - had a few drinks and a good laugh as the banter was flowing (I miss that with friends).
Had an early start this morning for our flight up to Mendoza. It was horrible flying again after using the buses for a few weeks. Buses are so much simpler and you dont feel crappy afterwards - never thought I'd say that! Anyway our Mendoza hotel I found for a bargain online is gorgeous - could well be the winner! We have three nights here and I dont even want to leave the room!!!
