Finally - we can take a photo in the sun….
Threw everything in the boot, prepared lunch and sadly left our lovely hosts. Day 2 in the Abel Tasman was looking good with hardly a cloud in the sky. I had planned a 14km bush walk from Bark Bay to Anchorage. Annelise was being dropped off else where and had a choice: sunbathe and wait for me or start my route from the other end and meet me at the idyllic sounding Cleopatra's Pool. After 2 ½ hours undulating track through giant ferns and other native flora, and spectacular views of turquoise and golden lagoons, I came face to face with Annelise round a tight bend. I was touched that she had chosen the romantic option and we headed to the pools. The final approach was across a stream, negotiating boulders as stepping stones. Annelise slipped off boulder on the way over (one slightly wet foot and a cut on leg), and I had wet shoes on the way back from slipping in completely after trying to assist Annelise over boulders. Water was chilly so decided against a swim, so hot footed it back to the beach and lazed in the sun for a couple of hours with backpackers until the taxi arrived. Abel Tasman certainly lived up to expectations. After 7 days in New Zealand summer, it felt good to feel the sun!
We are just about to drive to Blenheim and spend 2 nights in the wine region. Might not be able to post tomorrow, but stay posted in case the host has wifi!
