Arrived in Savannah about lunch time but was too early to check in so the hotel let us park our car and we took off on foot exploring! First stop the old harbour in the historic district. Lots of old cotton mills have been restored and turned into shops and restaurants and the view down the river was lovely. Walked the entire lengh of the harbour then cut up towards the centre of the historic district.
None of the free guide maps or leaflets really said to much about anything we were seeing so whilst it all looked really pretty we had no idea what we were looking at so felt like we were missing out a bit! Wandered around until about half three then it was too hot and stick to go on and the pool we had spied at our hotel was calling out to us! We spent the rest of the afternoon by the pool then back to the harbour for dinner.
Both had pasta as all the rich food starting to get to us and went for a walk along the harbour front at night, timed it perfectly as the hotel across the river were putting on a fireworks display which was fairly impressive and lasted about 20 min and as i love fireworks we stayed for the entire display! Then went to a bar called wet willies for a drink!! The only reason we went was out of interest as the doorman was wearing a stab proof vest!! (in savannah thats just weird!) and there was a police car parked outside it all night! The drinks they do are like alcoholic slush puppies in about 25 different flavours strong enough to blow your head off so we had a few different ones and headed home without seeing any acton!!
Day 2 After feeling a bit lost the previous day we decided to go on a hop on hop off trolly tour of savannah to learn a bit more about its history. Was definitely a good call it kept the walking to a minimum (which in 95 degree heat is a god send!), we got a guided tour of all the points of interest and we got off at a few of the stops to get a closer look and take some photos! By 4pm we were too hot and sticky so it was back to the pool for a cool down. Dinner was down at the harbour and a few more slush puppies at wet willies before heading back to the hotel! Tomorrow its Daytona Beach!
