Day 88 -Brisbane - Thursday 12th January 2012
After a lazy morning in the apartment and egg and bacon muffins, we headed out for a roam around Brisbane. There wasn't much really going on and the city is pretty expensive but strangely enough they have an area down by the river called Southbank! It's just like back home, so we took a walk down there and grabbed a flat white on the way. We even walked across the Australian version of "The Wobbly Bridge!" Once the other side of the water we carried on just chilling out and strolling in the sun. Some of Brisbane is so similar to London with its Southbank, river bank pubs, wobbly bridge, red buses and even a massive ferris wheel (not quite the London eye but close!). We ended up catching the cruise boat back which is like a big speed boat / taxi - It was pretty fast too. Once back at the apartment we had a quick shower and got changed as tonight we were going to the Powerhouse which is a local outdoor cinema in New Farm Park. Kelly and Chris met us at our apartment and with Danny and Nikki we all headed to the local supermarket to stock up on sweets, popcorn, tim tams and beers! The walk to Powerhouse was about 20 minutes through the park then basically there is a section of grass about the size of half a football pitch hidden by huge trees. Then there is a small gate where you pay $12 each and you're in to the "Cinema". As you walk through you see a huge, I mean massive screen on the side of an old disused building and a projector at the back. In the corner there is a small caravan that sells beers, popcorn and wine. We had enough time before the film started to have a few beers and some wine, as it started to get dark the local fruit bats started to make their nightly migration from the park to somewhere across town. So as the film started there were hundreds of bats flying above us and through the view of the screen - mind you, this was the best entertainment of the night because the film, Jack and Jill, was rubbish! It was well worth it though as when the film started getting worse you could just look at all the stars in the clear nights sky, watch the hundreds of bats fly past or tease Soph… I did all the above! Film done, we all headed home - Danny and I set our alarms for 5.15am so we could wake up to see Spurs v Everton live and it was well worth it as we won 2-1.
