Day 191 - Hollywood, LA, California - Tuesday 24th April 2012
Today we time travelled, yes time travelled! And as a result of this time travelling Tuesday 24th April was a forty two hour day for us! Spooky hey? Anyway here's how the day went………..
We woke early and did some skyping before sitting down for breakfast on the patio in our homestay in Suva, Fiji. After lazing around, a bit of packing and generally chilling out we caught our bus to the airport for our 10pm flight out of Fiji. On arrival we were informed our flight was delayed by just under two hours and so would be taking off at 11.50pm. So once on the flight and a mere ten hours later we arrived in LAX airport at 3pm, still on Tuesday 24th! Next up was the scary US customs counter - seriously even if you've not done anything wrong these guys make you believe you have! After giving every detail of our lives including fingerprints, eye scans, inside leg measurements we were finally given the green light to enter the U S of A.
Once we'd collected our bags we headed straight to Dollar rent-a-car to pick up our sweet ride - a white mustang convertible!! We were like two little kids in an ice cream factory - putting the roof up, putting the roof down, playing with the stereo, revving the engine; you get the picture!
We cruised into downtown Los Angeles and tried to find our hotel for the night; the traffic was a nightmare (rush hour by now) and so we took a detour and was quite impressed with ourselves when we still managed to find our hotel with the tiny map the rent-a-car company had given us (my exceptional map reading skills came into play!).
We parked up the mustang, checked into the Trylon hotel, put our bags down and headed straight back out again. Hollywood Blvd was walking distance so we strolled down and took into the sights of the Chinese theatre, Walk of fame, and Kodak theatre as well as the strange looking and dressed people hanging around. By now we were getting peckish and so Ad decided to take me to a lovely romantic restaurant - Hooters! So we sat with our beers and burgers checking out the scantily clad
girls with orange hot pants and little tops trying to guess which of them had real boobs!
After stuffing ourselves we headed back home to our hotel and on the way popped into American Eagle and treated ourselves to a couple of tops and shorts - it's so cheap here in comparison to Oz and NZ!!
Once back at the hotel, we slept ready for tomorrows drive to Vegas (baby) - where we were planned to meet Kirsten (Ad's sister) and husband Mark unbeknown to Mark. Kirsten planned the trip to Vegas (baby) for Mark's 40th birthday and it coincided with our visit and so we had been planning a surprise meet for a couple of months - exciting stuff!
