Bonjourno people of England
Since we last wrote, we have left Lake Garda, stayed over night in a 4 star hotel in Pescara, travelled to Pompei and we are currently writing from Lake Bracciano- North Rome.
I know your all thinking a 4 star hotel wasn't part of the great camping experience- but it pissed down on our last Day in Garda and on our way through Ancona , so as we were wet and fed up we decided the next big town we came to we would try to find a hotel- why not- you only live once!! If anyone's thinking of travelling to Pescara- our advice- don't bother- it's the Blackpool of Italy- cheap food, cheap Italian home boys everywhere!
When we got to Pompei- we were amazed at the location of the camp site- literally across the road from the ruins of the ancient city. It was a great location- however the main road was not only noisey but full of the worst type of driver- Italians! So car horns were sounding all through the night, packs of dogs barking, fireworks at all times of the day etc etc. When I say etc etc- I mean the site between the hours of 4pm and 7am was home to the local Ladies of the night! We weren't the only one's lured to the campsite for its cheap prices and small seedy bungalows rentable by the hour!! Honestly these Italian folk!
So anyway whilst at Pompei- obviously we went to see the ruins- which was interesting- not really as we expected- did you know Pompei had 86 takeaways in the whole city- that's like immense back in those days!
We climbed Mount Vesuvius- which had amazing views of Pompei and Naples- see pictures. And made us very dirty! Unfortunately there was no steam or Lava bubbling- so I had to bring Martin back with me L
We also travelled to Paestum- which is the oldest Greek ruins- out side of Greece. The place consists of three temples- which are still standing and lots of ruins- which they are still excavating. Haven't got the leaflet in front of me- but let me tell you they are pretty old- Martin thinks it was probably 35bc- or close to. Sorry- how rubbish are we- if your that interested we'll show you the brochure when we get back!
We also drove around the Amalfi coast and Sorrento- NEVER AGAIN!!!! My arms were actually hurting from all the steering around the smallest, narrowest, wiggliest roads in the world with insane Italian drivers beeping and trying to over take you on the dodgiest of corners, when there is a tourist coach coming the other way- would be nice if someone else was driving! The scenery was lovely- when Martin took over- by which time the roads had got a lot better (don't let him tell you otherwise!)
I also made a friend- nicknamed her Bella- you'll see her on the pictures- it was hard leaving her there L
We also made friends with Larz (hope that's how you spell it) and Esther from the Netherlands- lovely people- made us very happy as they gave us a jar of Nuttella. Made Martin a very happy boy.
We decided to leave Pompei earlier as we had done all of the touristy things and well the campsite didn't have a pool and we weren't that interested in the extra services on offer!
You'll be glad to know our current campsite is Family friendly and as yet we have not experienced anything other than your usual camping activities. Our tent is about 30 meters from the Lake, the Lake is one of the cleanest in Europe and supplies water to the inhabitants of Rome and you can swim in it- needless to say we obviously had a widdle in it! Ha have that you crazy Italians!! Only joking- we haven't- but funny aye!
Martin has been snorkeling and seen some cool fish- eating other cool fish. And yesterday- we like nearly died!!! I saved us from a savage attack by a water snake!! It got to within 2 foot of Martins back, when I noticed him gliding on the water with his tongue sticking out, ready to strike..lol. Martins face was a picture and we both moved pretty quickly back to shore.
We have today, 23rd June, been into Roma. We caught a small shuttle bus from the camp ground to Bracciano and then a train to Roma St Pietro- which is the stop for Vatican City- (Dad his almighty says "ow at Cater Agro- you legend" ohhh and he said to mention that he agrees entirely with the statement- "all gays are gay"- never forget!)
Gary Q he had a message for you "Looking forward to seeing you mate- Welcome to the club!)
Anway- yeah theVatican city- lovely, nice, very hot, full of foreign people. Lol. We took lots of pictures- see album "The Vatican". It was amazing and breath taking, the details of all the painings, woodwork, gold, and the whole size of the place was like nothing we had expected. We did the whole of the Vatican museum- which would have been nicer if there was only half of the people- I think im going to join the "im going to punch slow Walking people in the back of the head" group on Facebook.
We then took an open top bus tour around the rest of the city and to be honest with you it was that good we didn't feel the need to get off and look at anything else- you could see right into the Colosseum. The tour took 2 hours and with slight sun stroke we decided to come back to the comfort of the Lake. We eventually got back to the campsite- after what seemed like hours waiting in the sun- you know we felt like we just hadn't got enough sunstroke!! Bloody Italians and there siesta's- so laid back in their approach to life- just not in there driving- did I mention that they are all lunatics on the road!
Tomorrow we are going to walk into Bracciano and walk around there castle- we are leaving here on the 26th June, againearlier than planned, but as our next stop is in France and would take 9 hours of driving from here, we are going to stop for 2 nights near Pisa and then onto our site in France for the 28th June. So don't know when you'll next hear from us- hopefully it will be somewhere where its not 3 Euro's for half an hours internet!
We have written this before we have seen any of your messages so sorry if we don't reply- we will make an effort to next time we get a connection.
Love to you all
Kazzie & Martin
