Day 43: Mataranka to Tennant Creek
We are getting really good at these early departures. We were on the road by 8am once again. Darren had a fleeting thought of driving all the way to the Queensland border today, but thankfully I managed to convince him otherwise this time. We do have a couple of days of long, arduous driving but I'd prefer to add an extra stop rather than push ourselves too far one day in order to save time the following.
The drive was fairly uneventful, with a quick lunch stop at Renner Springs.
Thankfully the sun wasn't as strong today so Brandon and I didn't suffer with the sun on us as badly as yesterday. We've had a noticeable drop in temperature, we even had to put the heater on this morning for the first time since Wycliffe Well. When we departed this morning it was only 6 degrees, that would have been warm for the initial leg of our journey, but we felt it this morning. The mercury only reached 22 today.
What are the odds! When we were leaving the caravan park at Kakadu, a Fulchers van being towed by a gun metal gray Pajero was arriving. We saw the van again yesterday at Mataranka and again at Daly Waters today when we stopped for fuel. We are yet to meet these people but we already know what great taste they have.
We arrived at the Outback Caravan Park at about 4pm. The park is nothing flash to look at but the staff are friendly and the amenities are clean and well maintained. What more could you ask for.
We are yet again hoping to get away early tomorrow in preparation for another long drive so we are on a drive through site and we've kept the car hooked up to the van.
It is only 8pm and we're all in bed ready for sleep. Tomorrow we travel towards Mt Isa, watch out Queensland we're heading your way!
