My bed was so warm this morning, light creeping through the crack in the curtains and my eyes slowly opening ready for the cycle ahead for the day. I get down from my bunk and stroll over to pull them open ... Snow. We had heard the weather forecast yesterday but we didn't believe it after the day we had! However to our dismay it was true. A blizzard of snow flakes being blown horizontally from left to right. We went back to bed.
A few minutes later we realised we had no choice but to face it so it was back to the normal routine of packing our bags, having our full English and getting the bikes ready. We set off at around 10am and began riding towards Glasgow.
Luckily we had the wind behind us so we were going along at quite a pace which was brilliant! Although this brought a windchill of about -100, all I was thinking about was the hot shower at the end of the day so I just pedalled on one foot after the other.
By around 1pm the blizzard had turned into a flurry and then into sunshine for a brief period. All this happened whilst we we having some lunch in a pub. Low and behold as soon as we walked out to carry on our second leg of the day the snow storm returned of course! Meanwhile just to add the cherry on the cake I won he award for the first puncture of the trip! (drinks were on me tonight).
We cycled for another 20 miles down a very busy A road with huge lorries flying by,with moments of sun then snow, then rain and some more snow. At around 5 o'clock we arrived at our bed and breakfast which is great, nice and clean and a good place to bed down. The standard trip to get some dinner down the local and then time for a well earns rest!
