Upon arrival in Dubai we were both exhausted but we managed to get the phone, car and groceries sorted out without any real problems. Though it meant we did not get to bed until slightly after mid night.
We got up this morning around 7 cooked breakfast. I had lamb bought from grocery store. We got underway before 9.
We drove up to bur Dubai, the old town. We went through the Dubai museum a Fort al faridi. After the hour there I already felt like my skin was burning. So it was back to the car to get my big floppy hat and a second application of sunscreen. The fort and museum were pretty good. It definitely gave you the sense of what life was like before the oil money came in. It was definitely basic and would have been horribly hot. It was certainly worth the couple dollar entry fee.
We then walked about a kilometre to go to the sheikhs historic house. When we arrived we had the disappointment of a hand written closed for maintenance sign. No worries though we walked back through some interesting streets and then drove over to the gold and spice souk on the other side of the creek.
The gold souk was basically a street full of jewellery stores. Not that exciting.
The spice soul was at least a souk and was directed more so to locals (though not exclusively) than the gold one. Nothing purchased but a nice little experience.
Then we ate lunch at the ethiad museum. Lunch was very good with a great view. The museum was good. It was about the creation of uae and the founders. It was interesting very beautiful but it was not amazing as I did not see a lot of exciting things or learn too much I didn’t know.
Then we were off to see the mall of the Emirates. We checked out the ski hill and walked around a bit. It was good but we are glad to be in the hotel room at 630 cooking pasta for supper and getting early showers.
I find it hot but Trapper is really suffering the heat.
