Hey everyone
Today was Botanical Gardens day!
We woke up pretty early to get our lovely free breakfast (toast, toast, tea, toast...) and then headed out to the botanical gardens. This took longer than expected as it was really far from any mrt station, and we got a little lost... But by the time we arrived it had started to rain a little. Then moments after we arrived it started to rain REALLY heavily. Fortunately we found cover, had our lunch, but then weren't sure what to do next. We asked at the reception how long they expected the rain to go on for - they didn't know but they did give us some very nice yellow ponchos...
We considered for a while whether it was worth going out in the heavy rain and wearing our ponchos (with shorts and flip flops on underneath) then finally decided we would put them on and make the most of the day. Appropriately, we went straight into the 'rainforest' section of the gardens, and it was an amazing sight and experience (even with streams of water going around our feet). We got quite a few funny looks as we walked past shelters with people crammed under, but we saw the funny side of it all and we won't be forgetting the experience any time soon!
After strolling around for about 20 minutes (there were so few others around it seemed like we had the gardens to ourselves), we ended up in the bonsai garden (which was sheltered). We sat down and ate an apple (what a sight we must have been). After a few minutes the rain eased off and practically stopped. We continued our walk around the gardens, and for most of the rest of the day the weather was fine.
The botanical gardens were massive, and we pretty much covered every path and area that the place had to offer (the Evolution Garden, the Swan Lake, the Eco Garden, statues, fountains...). We were very tired by the end of our trek, and made our way back to the hostel, getting some food on the way, to get some well-earned sleep. It had again been quite a memorable day, and we were looking forward to our next (hopefully there would be less walking!). Xxx
