Hey everyone
Today we explored Rotorua!
We woke up to rain and the smell of sulphur, so decided to wait for the rain to ease off before going out and seeing the sights of Rotorua. When the rain did clear we set out armed with our umbrellas and crossed the road to the public thermal park. Here there were boiling mud pools, boiling water pools, and steam everywhere.
After taking some pictures we moved on and walked towards the lake. Rotoura has a huge lake caused by a volcano erupting thousands of years ago, leaving a crater, now filled with water. We sat for a while near the edge of the lake, just watching the boats and black swans go by.
After the wind got too cold for us, we decided to walk to the supermarket to stock up on rations. Enjoying New Zealand's cheap food prices (compared to Australia, at least) we bought a few meals to keep us going for the next few days, which would be hectic and with no time for supermarket shopping.
Back at the hostel, we made some tasty hot dogs for dinner and watched a bit of New Zealand TV (including the much missed Shortland Street), before packing our bags, as we were joining the Kiwi bus early the following morning. Xxx
