Thea and Lizzie's travels
Ok , so we found ourseleves back in Bangkok. We felt that after only a brief incounter with bangkok the first time around that we should make an active effort to look around the city this time. We headed off to Wat Pho- the largest reclining Buddha- which more than lived up to its name- this thing was emense. Now we didn\'t want to over do things so after a pit stop (an ice cream or two) we headed on to see the Grand Palace. The architecture was something else- we were feeling a little scabby and didn\'t pay to go in so could only admire from a far, but it was spectacular. From here we headed on to China town and hit the markets- of which there were many. All i will say is that we did them justice!! To round off out whistle stop tour of Bangkok we went to Patpong - the notorious red light district. It was certainly an interesting experience, we will leave it at that as we wish this website to stay clean!!!
From bangkok we headed south to the islands. We took what should have been a simple bus ride to Surat-thani and then a boat out to the islands, which, should have taken around 12 hours but ended up taking 24hours! The tedious journey, however, was well worth it as Koh Tao was worth every hour. We had our hearts set on doing a dive course so that was our first port of call. Once that was booked there was nothing else left to do but to lounge on the beach under the palm trees! Though before we could get too carried away the weather took a turn for the worse, however, we did not let this beat us! We used our time as one could only do in such circumstances- vigourous games of back gammon accompanied by a up fry up in the morning, followed by diving in the afternoon and to round off the days we perfected the art of \'buckets\'. To give a little insight into the latter i will first start by explaning what they consisted off ( after which you can use your imagination). The bucket- mix a bottle of Samsung ( rather strong Thai whiskey- yes once again whiskey), with Thai red bull- which is the consistancy of capol and contains speed, top it off with a dab of coke and some crushed ice and you have the bucket- did i mention that its one each??!! So all i have now to mention is the company that we endured our strenous days with on Koh Tao- There were two Sweeds, three Brits, six aussies and us. We soon became known as team easy! The company matched the setting- and many a good night was had by all ( i think we will let you see the photos and draw your own conclusions- TEAM EASY FOREVER!!!!)
Whilst on Koh Tao it was my (Thea\'s) birthday and I can safely say that it was one of the best! I was woken with a cup of tea and breakfast on our bungalow\'s varanda overlooking the sea, it was lovely! We spent the day in our usual manner, but little did I know what lay ahead! The evening started pleasantly enough, Lizzie and I enjoyed a quiet meal in our favourite resturant on the island, then the games begun! I was taken of down the beach expecting a a usual team easy night but was greeted with much more... there were fireworks, a fireshow and more buckets than usual!!The night was rounded off with the accoustomed sea dunking, which by the way my elbow and lizzie\'s jaw have still not recovered from!
I think you all should look at the photos to get a real flavour of thea\'s birthday!!
After we finished our dive course(which by the way we passed, and can now dive anywhere in the world by ourseleves!!) we headed, with haste, over to Koh Phangan. The weather had progressively been getting worse and only one boat was running, it was far from a smooth ride! (though Thea and I do differ on that subject). The rest of the easy clan had headed over earlier and had book us into a rather nice bungalow- this one had electricity!!! We got there on friday night - full moon night!! I should mention now that the notorious full moon party had been cancelled- yes thats right. First time ever and it had to be when we were there! Though this like the weather did not dampen our spirts a good night was most definitely had by all!!! Buckets, body painting, chants, thigh slapping and the odd little stumble were only some of the antics of the evening- please note that contrary to popular belief it was infact a minor trip of the feet.(Thea speaking-Lizzie fell headlong down some steps and in to a hole!) All i will say Tomisom is that at least some of us could keep it all down!!The evening finshed where it started... on the beach - we rocked back home at 8am to watch the sunrise and promtly fell asleep where ever we found ourseleves- happy days!!!! After a little recovery time ( which was aided by a chip buttey) we were back on our feet and saying some heart felt goodbyes to the guys- the team may be split but it will never be lost!!!
From Koh Phangan we headed over to Phuket to see kate. The luxury marriot appartment that greeted us was more than welcome and we spent a few days chilling and catching up with the antics from home. Seeing kate was great and reminded us just how much we miss you all!!!
We are now in Singapore and we stay here until the 27th before heading to australia. We hope that you all have a top christmas - i\'m sure we will at Raffels!!! Merry christmas and happy new year, lots of love Lizzie and Thea xxxx
