Thea and Lizzie's travels
Our first day in Singapore was mainly spent wandering round the supermarket listening to the christmas songs they were playing! It sounds strange be we were in need of a little christmas cheer! There was little else to do in the city, it was very expensive and has all the same shops that we have at home. The next day, however, was slightly more exciting. We woke up early and packed up our bags ready to leave our hotel to get a taxi to Raffles, when we were informed that a car was being sent! Everyone in the hotel we were staying in were very excited about us going to Raffles and made us promise to fill them in when we got back.
When we got to Raffles we went straight for breakfast, which was ace, it was a buffet and you know how we take advantage of them! We then went to the pool, which felt lightly strange, it being christmas day and all. The fact that it was hot enough to sit outside was a novelty! We checked in to our room, which was amazing. There was enough space to hold a football match and the bathroom was bigger than anything we had stayed in so far!
Later that day we went for pedicures, it was great to srub away two months worth of dirt, well great for us anyway, I'm not sure the beauticians thought the same! So with painted toenails and straightened hair we were ready for a trip to the Long Bar for a Singapore Sling. It was really cool, there were peanuts on the tables and you just threw the shells on the floor, somehow it made them taste nicer! We went for christmas dinner in the Tiffin room (just one of the many places to eat in Raffles). It wasn't quite the average traditional dinner, there was turkey but it was curried! But the food was great and we came away with the standard fullness that usually accompanies christmas.
The next morning we had another go at the breakfast buffet before heading back to the pool. That afternoon we had high tea, which had scones and everything! There were more teas to chose from than there are stars in the sky but, feeling very patriotic, I went for a 'classic english tea' and Lizzie for a 'Queen tea'. We then packed up our bags and walked back to our hotel, having had a truely lovely time at the Raffles hotel!
