Bit of backstory:
My laptop broke shortly after this entry and I had to get another one from the UK...luckily I had all my entries backed up to the cloud, so f*** yeah! I haven't uploaded an entry since November...but luckily, I've been writing them in TextMaker (a really nice alternative to Word) since then, just never got round to actually putting them on here. There will be a burst of entries in the next few days or so and I'm working on the latest one as we speak.
So yeah, I'm really sorry I've been quiet for a while, but that's about to change!
Onto the entry:
So Callum and I ended up spending Christmas in Fukang where Brian and Reece stay. All the other Xinjiang volunteers made it down which was fantastic. Seeing everybody before Winter travel (which is going to kick so much ass, by the way) was really nice, especially at Christmas time. Not going to lie, I missed all my friends and family very much this Christmas, but the company that I had helped fill the void wonderfully. I hold each and every one of them in reverence and thank them for making everything so much fun and Christmasy.
Actually getting to Fukang was a little bit of a nightmare: we first had to take a bus to Urumqi which took slightly under four hours and then we had to make a transfer to Fukang, which took another two hours. Did I mention there was asstons of snow all over the damn road which slowed things down a bit more. Nevermind though (f*** you spellcheck, I'm spelling nevermind without a space because Nirvana), once we finally did arrive, we found that everybody else was already there waiting. This wasn't that unexpected just because Karamay is the furthest city from Fukang. What was unexpexted however, was that Ben, Reece and the Laura's had been slaving away in the kitchen making a christmas dinner which was no less than godlike. Damn, that chicken was so tasty. Mmm-mm!
So, after dinner had been eaten Brian fell over nothing and went on his ass which probably took a few years off my life due to uncontrollable laughter. Then, it was time for presents. Oh yeah, presents man. Reece had the idea to get everybody to do a secret santa a few months before in time for Christmas and lord knows we all thank him for it. I can't remember exactly what everybody received, but I remember the sincere presence of cheer and good-feeling in the air. Also, Harrison got me nunchucks. f***ing lad. So the Christmas formula was being followed pretty well at this point; dinner was eaten, good company was around me and presents had been given. The only thing left to do was get utterly smashed. And we did. It was fun. Baijou (Chinese wine) is gross.
And that was Christmas. I also found out that Brian and Alastair love Super Smash Bros. which warmed my heart. I'm going to wreck their lives when I get Smash 4. Travel will be so amazing! Yeah, that's it for now guys. Thank you to all the vols in Xinjiang for making this Christmas kick so much ass, and I'll speak to you soon. 'Til next time, stay beautiful you cool cats!
