In year 8 I convinced my parents to let me go to Spain with school, it would cost £300 with one condition that I raise my own spending money. So I got myself a paper round, not just one but 3 paper rounds. I would wake up at 6am and do 2 before school and then 1 after school as well as after school clubs, guides and cheerleading.
To get to Spain meant a coach journey from Darwen to Dover, a ferry to France and then another coach journey through France to Spain. It was a very cramp uncomfortable journey combined with all the emotions of high school kids forced into a confined space for 24 hours.... creating an interesting situation.
A few memories that stand out from the trip... hotel antics, the beach, Barcelona, and the crazy gorilla that attacked me.
Putting teenagers in a foreign country you can imagine what they could get up to... now add a hotel to the situation and expect havoc!!
I was put into a room with two of my close friends from school, it was unexpected that one would have a change of personality so extremely. I have always been a modest person in the sense that nakedness should be kept in the bedroom... I now know to be more specific and say within reason. This being due to my friend deciding to ebcome a nudist and flash us her lady areas at any feasable opportunity. Call me a prude but when it comes to a gym locker room I will always used a cubicle, I will never be the old lady that hangs wild and free!!
Another moment of sanity of my dear old friend would be locking me and the other room mate out onto the balcony as a form of punishment... what a terrible experience it was being stuck on a balcony in spain lapping in the sunshine... better than any naughty chair I had seen.
