Arriving at Piesy and Preze's farm Greenbanks about 20km out of Hamilton yet again another great spot to park on the edge of the lawn and playground at our doorstep.
So welcoming as well as being treated to some home grown lamb meals and the children Bell (6), Jack(5) and Maggie (8 months) all got along very well. Lots of fun had with the puppy, kitten and playing with toys.
On Monday we headed for a drive to Bridgewater, a very small seaside town on the south coast of Vic. With the wild sea we all felt nervous but were amazed at the same time with the shear size and force of the ocean and the spurting blow holes. Towering above us were the wind turbines that we could hear purring away producing power (how much they contribute to the power grid we don't know)!! A quick run to The Petrified Forest which looks like a forest of tree roots that have turned to rock. Believed sand once engulfed an ancient forest of costal trees, petrifying them for life. Then a short half hour walk along the point and beach. Heading into Portland to discover the port housed a huge woodchiping dock and an aluminium factory, and apart from some nice house locations on the coast there was not much else here so we headed back to Greenbanks to try and catch some sheep work with Prez. Helping him take some sheep across the road with Lotte and Archie riding the quad I think we were a help not a hinderance.
The next 2 days were spent on walking tracks in the Grampions. The first day doing a walk on the south end along the Picininniny track that gave us a view over Dunkeld then latter in the day from Halls Gap we went to Boroka lookout and then walked the 1.6km track to the Baloconies. Spending the night at a well priced motel we had a swim in the heated indoor pool and ate spaghetti and eggs on toast for dinner. Wednesday was more walks after doing school til 9.45 we walked up to the Pinnacales lookout and then to Splitters Falls. As a bribery we took a little snack and discovered milk bottles covered in chocolate are pretty good (just like a chocolate milkshake only chewy). Mm mm
A catch up day spent scanning, bus work, school work and helping with some sheep work on 19th Feb. With Piesy and Prez out for the night we looked after Bell and Jack, thankfully all went well and they had a great night.
Friday the Wallis family decided to travel with us to Mt Gambia SA, our real first passengers so it was an exciting mornng, 4 children Prez and Tim did the first half while Piesy, Maggie and Fidge followed the bus in the Wallis car. The kids thought it was great and at half way Piesy and Prez swapped. Fuelling up we all decided the Blue Lake was a good spot for lunch. Situated right on the edge of the town centre once a volcano it is now an amazing coloured lake aprox 4km in circumferance. From Nov to March it changes from a greyish coulour to a beautiful bright blue. The cause unknown why on almost to the same date each year this change happens (theories of algie seem to be the most popular, being made of limestone also may have something to do with it). After a fun lunch and many laughs (particularly with Prez attempting the fence), it was sad to say goodbye to the Wallis family and onto Beachport we headed.
