We parked the bus up in a fringe suburb Richmond at Wanders Rest, a secure caravan park with almost free 4 night max stay, as we are not game to drive the blue beast into Sydney.
We unloaded the ute of the trailer and transferred the gps from the bus to the ute and headed in to Sydney for the weekend early saturday morning.
"Can we go and see the Sydney Harbour Bridge, can we see the Sydney Harbour Bridge" was what we could hear from the back seat of the ute. Shoosh kids these roads are crazy, nothing like Tom Price or Tasmania we have no idea where we are going — shut up we cant think we are trying to get to Manly so we can catch the ferry you will see it later today."
Ahhh b***** we have taken the wrong turn. "Ohhh does that mean we wont see the bridge today? "Who knows kids please be quiet" (well with a few more choice words) then as we drove around the corner we began to drive over the bridge!!
Well, that was a nice unplanned surprise. Now that we are in the city we might as well stay, there are plenty of car parks, but to not so. After the first car park was not high enough for the ute and the second costing $64, we decided to revert back to plan A. So back over the bridge, another toll fee and to Harriet's home. What a relief not to be driving in that traffic, thank goodness we were not in the bus!!
Onto the Manly Ferry and what a view-this is what we were after-the bridge and opera house. After a walk around the area we decided to catch the tourist site seeing double decker bus. (anyone would think we would have had enough of double decker buses). This was a great way to see highlights of Sydney and bit of a roller coaster ride ducking from trees and the bus taking hills and roads at good speed. We did some cruising in the city and then off to Bondi Beach for a coffee. Heading back at dusk through Rosebay, pay Double Bay and into the city again. A quick 20 min walk to the city and back on the manly Ferry to Harriets for tea.
We had 2 enjoyable evenings with Harriet, Bill, Hannah and Finn (Fidge's cousins-Mums side). Hannah and Finn entertaining us with, singing, trumpet playing, Cosmo, games, chickens and brush turkeys.
Sunday was another lovely day Harriet and Hannah took us fishing just over the back fence at Manly Dam. Would never have known this was right at Manly, great spot with heaps of beautiful native plants and animals.
At Midday a family lunch with Cagga, Jess and Zac, Frieda and Banjo (Fidge's family, Dads side) who also lived in the same suburb only a few blocks away. Who would have thought!! Then down to Manly beach for a surf the kids had a ball with Banjo and Frieda, they all had a go at swimming and surfing. Thanks to Zac with some quick coaching Archie's first time surfing and he caught the wave standing all the way into the beach. And an all to quick catch up with James too at the beach.
After the beach we meet some friends from Tom Price, Ryan a work colleague of Tim's from Byblos and Abby one of Fidge's community nursing team. It was great to see Ryan and Abby and their new baby boy Duke. As you can imagine Lotte was as happy as can be and successful in getting Duke to have a sleep in the pram while we had a coffee.
Monday was another action packed day heading to Cronulla Beach to check at the area where we had purchased an investment property site un-seen at the neighbour suburb Caringbah last year.
We were very pleasantly surprised with the local area and with our new unit, a 3 x 2 x 3 top story unit which has a lovely open plan living room /kitchen with views of the water and the city and a busy road directly to Cronulla beach 2.5 km away
After having our first rental inspection and meeting our lovely tenants we headed to the beach, indulging in some swimming, and hanging at the beach and trying out the local beach tucker; -shorts on for all of us today for the first time in while!!. We will definitely head back here to have another look in the near future. The local Cronulla area was extremely beautiful coastal living, a very friendly, young, energetic and laid back feel which suit us down to the ground!! It is definitely a high light spot in this awesome city for us. We left feeling very relieved if not a little proud of our site unseen purchase.
Then back to Richmond for night in the bus before heading north to Forster.
A very busy few days here in Sydney, just a touching on what we could do. Lovely to see family even if so briefly.
