What an amazing experience. Yes I was very sick, but I got to see some absolutely amazing things. The terain itself was something I've never seen before. I got to walk through the rainforest! The dust at the top was how I imagine the moon would be like. I was part of a very special group of people without whom I wouldnt have made it up. The power of those donations for The Hill and The Mountain Challenge at www.virginmoneygiving.com/RachelEHill totally helped me up too and I'm sure I would have turned back if I could have without them. The support from my family and friends has been overwhelming and humbling and also empowering! I am so so grateful to all who have been involved. I aged about ten years by all my efforts and it was clear to those who knew me that I wasnt well for the first couple of weeks back.
I went back to work pretty much immediately after my climb and probably shouldn't have. If I could have I would have taken a bit more time off for my body to repair itself. Thank goodness for support tape. Eventually I had feeling in my tounge back, however it took a little while longer than I would have liked and I also dont quite have all my feeling in my shoulders back just yet, but hopefully that will come with time. I also felt a bit like I suppose anyone does once its all over. What do I do with my time now? To answer that question I say that sleep is amazing, and socialising with the important people in your life is wonderful. Now its three weeks later I think i'm up for some gentle Yoga or a nice long stroll, but nothing to strenuous for now!
Will I ever do it again? Probably not, but there were some really wonderful sights to see and I'd recommend anyone to do it. People keep telling me I should be proud. I just wish I had enjoyed it more. I was looking forward to it for so long and now suddenly its all over!
I've raised £2,625 for Parkinsons UK and for that alone I am very proud. And hopefully Dads proud too.
