After a 16 hour overnight bus journey, we arrive at Foz do Iguacu at 9am!
First stop checking into our hostel bambu, where Junior from our hostel in Florianopolis got us a discount : )
The hostel's tour bus fot Iguacu Falls was leavig in 5 minutes, all you saw was 5 very tired chicas running around the hostel trying to get ready and pack our day bag.
The Iguacu Falls is one of the world's greatest natural phenomena. It's definately not the Niagara Falls placed south of the equator! Compared with Iguacu, Niagara is a ripple.
It starts at an altitude of 1300m, increasing in power and size during it's 1200km journey. It then plunges over 80m high cliff in 275 separate falls.
Today were seing the Argentine side which allows you to get up close to the falls and tomorrow the Brasilian side which gives overall panaromic view.
To get there we needed to cross the border where we had usual passport checks etc! Enroute to the waterfalls we stopped of at a point where you can see the triple frontier between Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina! Photo moment!
Finally we arrive at the national park onboard a quite train which takes us to the start of the trail where we were greeted with many coatis (racoon-like) animals.
Pictures and my descriptions will never do the falls justice, it's absolutely spectacular! I love the sound of water crashing. The Garganta do Diabo (Devil's Throat) is the most impressive individual fall.
After half a day of walking around seeing different waterfalls and of course we can't forget the point where we got ripped off for lunch as silly us didn't bring any food, we boarded the boat ready for a cruise to the falls!
We knew we would get wet, but underestimated the power of the fall! We were soacked even with our waterproofs on and blondie me left my money belt on!
At exit of the falls there were a few stalls where we purchased our bracelets : ) it's a backpacker hip thing to do. You purchase bracelets from each place you visited, it's not like we have the luxuries of carrying souvenirs around!
Now 2.5 weeks into backpacking and we still can't direct ourselves to the supermarket which is literally a few blocks away. I blame the fact that everything looks different at night, my bearings ge confused!
Back at the hostel we met Jordan, an amazing guitarist who played for us all night! Forget bedtime stories this is way better!
