We drove into New Orleans yesterday, and I truly was not prepared for the devastation. As we crossed the bridge into the city, we could see beside us another bridge whose middle had been completely torn away by Katrina. Driving through the residential area, with a birds eye view, we could see that even now so many houses were in desperate need of repair, they just looked like empty shells, roofs and walls revealing their guts thriough gaping holles. Their entire city seems to have an air of just giving up.
We are staying in a historical townhouse in the French Quarters, all on one floor together, with beautiful old rooms. We scored a four poster bed (ahh...beds), and if feels like we are REALLY staying in New Orleans. If we were just staying in a dime-a-dozen motel you could be anywhere! Last night we all got dressed up and went out to Bourbon Street!John walked over to a jazz club while we were in a club called the Cats Meow, and chatted to the sax player for a while!
