So it's less than a month until I leave for China now, so I thought it was about time I made the blog I promised and told everyone properly what I'll actually be doing next year!
I'm going to China with the organisation Project Trust, an educational charity that sends school leavers to volunteer overseas on their gap year. I'm based in the south-eastern province of Jiangxi, in the city of Jiujiang, and I'll be teaching at Jiujiang Tongwen Middle School. The school is huge, apparently really well-resourced and also used to hosting foreign visitors. The classes I'm teaching will be of 60 students, aged anything from 12 to 17.
My partner Nicole and I will be living (can't think of any way of saying that that doesn't make us sound like a lesbian couple!) about 5 minutes walk from the school in what sounds like the nicest accomodation of any of the other volunteers - a newly-renovated four-bedroom four-storey house with an "out-door roof hang-out spot".
There are three other pairs of volunteers in Jiangxi province, all about 5-6 hours from me and Nicole, and 19 more volunteers in different provinces across China. It's over 50 hours of travelling time between some of the projects so some of us probably won't see that much of each other, but we do all go on a language course together in Gansu province in October so that'll be fun.
I think that's pretty much everything for now. I'll write again when I actually get to China!

Auntie Clare Hope it lives up to expectations. There appear to be some decent shopping places relatively near, so we might see you return with quite a different wardrobe! Do take care, hope you and your 'partner' will be very happy together!!?!
Ella It's all going well so far - we've not tried shopping for anything more exciting than food and cleaning supplies yet, but I'm sure we will before long!
