And so the adventure begins....
Manchester, UK
After 6 years of dreaming and talking about travelling the world together we were finally doing it! We had fallen in love with the thought of exploring the world and sharing the experience with each other, South and Central America became our choice of location. This choice was due to Alexs fascination with Mayan architecture and culture and also a perfect way for us to explore our love of food and sample new tastes and local dishes.
After a lengthy and tricky task of packing your whole life into a small bag to carry on your back for the next 6 months we were ready to go.
The trip was to take 17 hours starting in Manchester, then Zurich, Sao Paulo and finally landing in Buenos Aires. The beginning of our journey was pure luxury due to the great leaving present from my work, we were eating free food in comfortable surroundings in the Escape travel Lounge at Manchester Airport. Our first experience of Argentina was an Argentinean transport strike! We ended up waiting in Sao Paulo airport for 11 hours waiting for the Argentinean plane to decide whether it would show up or not. We knew a tiny amount of Spanish at the most, made things quite tricky in an airport where they speak Portuguese... It took us 3 hours just to pluck up the courage to try and order a cheese and ham toasty!
After delirium set in from severe sleep deprivation and numerous frustrating last minute changes to the departure board the plane finally arrived! After 30 hours of travelling, delays and fumbling through just getting there we were finally on our way to the first stop of our journey!
