There are some things in life you cant pass up. even though it may not be the ideal time, it may well be the only time.
now im not exactly the most adventurous party animal/person in the world (more like chess champion of my middle school who plays football about as well as a 1 legged blind man.....with diarrhea) but when my dad suggested going some travelling i thought id look in to it.....turns out that as long as your willing to drop everything you have, its really not that hard to do. so just after my 19th birthday i decided to head towards Perth, Australia. I got 2 extra jobs, i told my GF and my boss i was leaving, i sold my car, phone,tv and pretty much anything else i owned that could be put on gumtree; and within 3 months of having the idea i was sweating my pasty white arse of in sunny Perth.
Luckily for me i have some close family living in Perth, who were bang on letting me stay with them and were so help full with finding me work once i arrived. Thats the great thing about WA at the moment. The money. Working as a barman full time at 19 you can earn as much as a middle aged professional back in the UK, and if your care full the majority of that money dosent go up in smoke (literally :D). and since your in Australia, your so close to so many places like Thailand, Bali, Vietnam ETC. that that money can go along way. Perth wasn't a bad city but working full time in a bar you don't really have much of a life (which is good for saving) and you become a bit stir crazy. although you do have a good crack when the opportunity rises. specifically me and my cousin mall driving to a mates house wearing bow ties and briefs, pretending to be male strippers at 5am on new years day, only to be greeted by the dirtiest birds my mate could manage to pull for us....i left fairly quickly after arriving....mall didn't come back until that evening :/.
So after a month or so i Perth i became a bit frustrated with it, and decided to take a stab at living in the outback. I moved up north to Tom price, just outside Karijini national park thinking it would be a good place to earn some cash ready to start travelling properly and id get so see some stuff that most travellers wouldn't. i landed myself a nice little job working in an electrical store that where all i had to pay for was beer and food(mainly beer). On my days off id head in to the outback to see some of the landscape, and it is a totally different feeling moving from your first ever city to being 2 hours away from any other civilisation. but the views are stunning. not a building for miles and Karijini is full or swimming holes rock pools, and water falls. its literally like living tropical lagoon.
So 3 months in to my trip and thats where i am. starting to plan my next move. maybe Thailand, maybe back to Perth but for some reason Brazil keeps popping in to my head. the worlds my oyster and its a great feeling to be completely free, knowing that if i want i can be anywhere in the world by tea time tomorrow.
Peace x
