Lima

October 23rd - October 28th (Day 233 - Day 238)

After another long journey we finally we made it to Lima. We had an 11 hour layover from Guayaquil to Lima. where we were not allowed to go through to departures until the next morning. Not happy. Once we got to Lima absolutely knackered our hostel airport pickup failed to turn up. I was not a happy bunny. We got to the hostel finally after getting a normal airport taxi and saved on a dollar!

We've spent 5 nights here and absolutely love the hostel. I don't think Chris wants to leave this place and would probably give up the rest of the trip if he could stay here. Why? The people here are very nice, it is owned by an australian guy and we have spent many an afternoon sitting with him and his local staff chatting and bantering. I think Chris has been missing some male company! Ahh well he will have to contend with T and Jess who arrive today from London... We've hardly seen many sights due to having too much fun in the hostel, along with the cable TV we had in our room and all the many movie channels and sport channels there were. It is definately nice to have a bit of luxury.

We have had many issues with STA travel that have continued on from Ecuador, to cut a long story short we are no longer doing the classic Inca trail due to the mistakes they've made and we have now been booked on to the Lares trek. It's the second best option. For me it doesn't make up for it and I'm very disappointed that I won't be able to complete one of the tasks I set myself on this trip.

We have explored Miraflores a little bit, this included indulging in KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut and lots of cakes. We walked along the coast and followed the path round where there have a small shopping centre in the side of the cliff. It is very pleasant and feels very much like surburbia. We visited a small pre inca site, where they are still doing excavations, which was pretty interesting.

We have saved the majority of sights to visit when T and Jess arrive. This will probably include an open top tour bus of the historical centre ;)
