Day 290 - Day 294
Hi All,
We've just spent the last five days completely relaxing before our 23 days worth of camping. I still can't believe that I actually signed up to it.
We decided to treat ourselves and got an apartment for 5 days. I thoroughly enjoyed our own space and doing some cooking, even though the pans they supplied were tiny. As soon as I got in the apartment I completely emptied my backpack which felt very good! It's the simple pleasures :)
Whilst we were here we caught up with the three british girls we met on the Bolivian salt flats tour. They were taken in by a random chillian family for a couple of days. The son happened to join us for dinner one night.
He took us to a delicious cheap Japanese restaurant! No cream cheese in sight thankfully. He promptly invited us to his home for a traditional chillian family Christmas. We said thanks but declined, especially after the girls' stories about drinking copious amounts of tequila, karaoke and tomatoes and avocado for breakfast. Still it was incredibly nice of him to invite us.
The Japanese food was so good we decided to meet the girls there for dinner the next day. We found out that one them had their bag slashed earlier in the day. It's a shame since Chile is supposedly the safest country in South America and we all have been fine until now.
I really like it here in Santiago, the main plaza is beautiful, people are very friendly, the atmosphere is very chilled and relaxed, a bit rough around the edges and the ice cream is great.
Tomorrow we have to say goodbye to our apartment and meet the rest of our dragoman tour group. We are a little worried about the hotel we are staying in as the reviews on trip advisor are a bit dubious....
