The good news is that none of us got quarantined today. Other good news is that we were nowhere near the Chinese earthquake that left 18,000 people homeless (we do feel badly for them, however). Our biggest problem today was that it was sooo HOT AND HUMID; and the tofu molded thing that was part of our authentic Chinese dinner.
It was a touring day with Cindy, our guide, who really got a kick out of Doug's sense of humor (I told her NOT to encourage him). She's a sweet lady who just started working for CCAI a month ago. We went to Tienneman Square; the Forbidden City; a silk factory (those worms are pretty amazing); and the Hutong City. You might want to Google some of that if you want more information - or write yourself a memo to ask Doug to fill it in. We also had a really good lunch with Americanized Chinese food; dinner was a bit more adventurous. Doug, Trev & I used chopsticks; Teri opted for a fork.
Beijing is crowded, but people have been very nice and welcoming; the air is definitely smoggy; as I said, it is h-u-m-i-d; and the other adoptive parents are really cool people. We're actually doing well with jet-lag issues, I'm surprised and pleased. It's a good time.
Tomorrow we start bright and early and are off to the Great Wall. It's a long day with several tours, lots of walking, more Americanized Chinese food (gratefully), ending with a Chinese acrobatic show. I don't know if anyone will actually blog tomorrow because of the long day - so if we don't, just assume we're doing fine!
