Hello Hello!
Before I can go ahead I have to do a little backtracking... So...
June 27, 2008 USA
My flight has just started to back out of the gate towards the runway -we're running a few minutes behind... Surprise! I'm right behind the wing so it's pretty loud! The safety announcements are in Hindi and English! I've been kinda freaking out all day today but I'm starting to calm down, now that I'm on the plane. I called around to say bye to some peoples but sadly, got a couple answering machines. But at least I got to talk to my mom for a bit -that helped :)
So, I am now in the air, above the clouds. No longer able to see the shimmering lights below along the Bay. Flying at night is rather nice. The lights are really pretty at take-off and landing. Although, it does keep you from being able to see the area nicely. I'm glad I flew out of Seattle during the day. I can't imagine flying into India while it's dark out. Cause then you'd reach your destination then have to go out not having had the chance to get a good overview from the plane first! Well, I've got about 12hrs till Shanghai. I'm not sure what I'll do now but I'm pretty sure I'll write something during the 2hr 'plane freshen up' there. Maybe I'll get on the little individual tv at my seat and explore...
I'm in Shanghai now. Just waiting in a closed off area of the airport right outside of the gate. They say it's about a 2hrs or so wait while the plane gets cleaned, re-loaded with fuel, food and new flight attendants and pilots come. the flight from SFO to here was about 12.5hrs. It wasn't all that bad though. The individual tv screens have a wide entertainment selection. I watched 3 long movies -3 that I've been wanting to see for a while! There are lots more but I started to get tired and figured it'd probably be a good idea to shut my eyes for a bit -they've been kinda irritating me. I was hoping the airport would be hustly-bustly but as far as I can see around here, it's empty -except for a few cleaning crew people. It almost feels like the people with this flight are the only people at his airport. I can't wait to get Mumbia. I'm hungry! Plane food is definitely not my fav. The line to re-board the plane has almost disappeared. I better go re-board. I'm back on the plane with 6.05hrs flight time to go.
The flight should be landing in .5hr or so. I'm excited, nervous, anxious, happy, sad... just a salad bowl of emotions! The flight is running a bit early but I figure by the time I get off, go through customs, and get my bags I should, hopefully, walk out and see my bhaiyas just fine. I'm still hungry, I'm surprisingly not at all tired/sleepy at the moment -considering that I've slept for maybe a combined total of 2hrs, and I really want to take a shower! Airplane air is ugh. But in the meantime I need to get a hold of the little customs/arrival sheet so that Ican fill it out ahead of time. Ugh! I used to be pretty good at it all. I've gotten out of practice. Five years is kind of a long time... *Sigh. The plane is starting to head back down through the clouds. BREATH!!

It has finally sunk in that I am here. Yesterday I went from Navi to Santacruz and then came to Malad W. Overall it was a good day -very laid back.
Oh! The Santacruz apt elevator! That thing is kinda scary. It's small (like all he other elevtors I've ever been in in India) but it's dark and the front door is gated. There are two sliding gates when you get in. The outer one has to be completely shut before the elevator will move but the inner one doesn't -actually, it won't. It stays ajar, a bit. There is a mini tubelight in the elevator but it doesn't work. Also, the lift doesn't stop on every floor. Some floors actually have stuff piled in front of the elevator door and so even if it did stop, there would be no point. To get to our floor we have to go up one floor then walk down and then to leave we have to walk back up and then take the lift down. I figure, so long as I'm only in there with people |I know... I'll be ok!

Last night I went to a Punjabi wedding sangeet. It was fun and very entertaining. The bride's family are old friends of Sadhana didi and Ashok ji. She is getting married to a Tamil brahmin guy from Chennai. The wedding is going to be in Chennai in a few days so I won't be able to go but I'll be going to at least one more on the pre wedding celebrations. Later today I'm going to an interview shoot for a new music duo. It's taking place at Big Music and it's for Music India. They are the first Indian Hip Hop/Rappers to be releasing a solo cd from India.

The interview was interesting -educational and entertaining. But before I tell more about that I have to tell about the puppy. As Sadhana didi and I were leaving the Malad W. apt and meeting with the boys to go for their interview, the dogs at the building that didi takes care of were attacking another outside dog. It looked like a puppy -it was pretty small and it was pretty much skin and bones. One of the dogs had the puppy in his mouth and was shaking him back and forth and thrashing him on the ground. Didi went over and shooed the dogs away (Being that I'm still kinda scared of dogs I stayed a few steps back). The building watchmen did nothing until did shouted at them to help the puppy. It was laying on the ground unable to get up and it had blood on it's back side. I went to the car to get a cloth to put the puppy in so that we could take him to Ahimsa (a NGO veterinarian hospital bun by Jains). When didi and one of the watchmen picked the puppy up with a cloth that I'd brought from the car and placed him in an auto, I saw something small, red and soft-looking laying on the ground by where the puppy had been so I piked it up in the other cloth and then got into the auto. Luckily Ahimsa isn't far. When we got there didi carried the puppy in and placed him on the table in the 'operating' room. One of the vets came in and looked at him. He said that the puppy\s spine was broken -he felt the area and lifted him up to try and make him stand but the puppy's back two legs just laid limp together. Then the other vet came in and looked at the puppy and said the same thing. They gave him a painkiller shot to help him a little cause they said they didn't think there was much they could do for him. Plus the puppy had gastro. This morning didi said she talked to the vets there and they said the puppy was breathing very slow -that he would probably die soon.
I've never been to a place like that before. It made me feel really sad to see the animals but also happy to see that there was a place with people that would care for them. I'll try to go back and take some pics.
I think I'll continue with the boys' interview with Music India at Big Music later... I'll try to get some pics up soon too! Maybe later today... But in the meantime, I hope you all have enjoyed my beginning attempts to keep a blog!
