So we spent the large majority of yesterday in the tailors again for our 'final' fittings. We were there so long I felt like it basically became our second home! Our first fitting lasted 2 and a half hours and before we knew it we were in another tailors with people buying more dresses, Flo and I abstained this time of which we were proud!! After eating lunch at lightning speed, we stupidly though we could fit in a 3 hour cycling tour before our next fitting, we decided to just hire bikes for $1 (it's just so cheap!) and cycled to the beach for a quick stop before rushing back to the tailors for another fitting. The tailors were highly amused by the constant presence of the 8 of us. Unfortunately some of us were more successful than others. Our dresses were perfect by now but Ella was still being fitted at 7pm....they kept rushing upstairs to make minor alterations. Ella's required 5 alterations, they just couldn't get her neckline right!! We managed to have our eyebrows done whilst we waited and consumed some yummy ice cream as well. Day well spent. Finally we were ready to ship our dresses and suits and costs and shirts home and headed for dinner.
This morning we rose bright and early to go to the phone shop and we have great news...FLOS PHONE IS FIXED!!!!!!!! We rejoiced and the guy got up at 4am to fix it, we are suitably impressed with the Vietnamese thus far not that we're generalising! Next we headed to hue and after a couple of stopovers at some stunning sights we arrived having wound our ways up the mountains. In hue we headed out on a motorbike tour for 4hours which was awesome (don't worry mum we had drivers and helmets). The bikes were surprisingly smooth and reasonably comfortable although I did start to suffer from minor back ache, not that I'm complaining or anything! We went out to a local village and saw how rice was farmed and made into flour etc by the funniest lady. She truly acted it out and fed Flo a natural form of chewing gum which apparently tasted of dead leaves. She was left with a v red tongue and an unimpressed face...we also visited a Buddhist temple and one of the highest points for some great views before becoming part of the Vietnamese traffic. My driver got so far behind everyone else he drove on the opposite side of the road into the oncoming traffic. It was interesting and exhilarating at the same time! There is one sound that neither of us ever want to hear again and that is the sound of honking horns which are used excessively over here. The bus driver the other night seemed to be honking it for fun. The sound is endless and has very little effect in my opinion. Tomorrow we leave Hue for Halong Bay which involves a 14 hour train (thank god) ride and 4 hour coach ride so we're stocking up on snacks and water and heading to the old city tomorrow for a better look at the city. We have learnt that the history of the Vietnamese kings was fairly scandalous with one king having 142 children and 500 wives.....
Tess and Flo xx
Ps we had our blog read out to us in a funny accent yesterday and it made us sound like a pair of bumbling idiots...we do apologise if that is indeed true but hopefully you'll hang in there!!
