Okay folks, it's time to change the language to English. My blog can be found in the site of Asia Exchange and many of my exchange mates doesn't understand Finnish so suck it up. Little recap for those, who hasn't been able to read this before: finnish dude is taking his exchange semester in Bali. I now live in a villa with 7 other mates from various European countries and after almost a one week everything has been more than awesome.
Last days has been quite normal, we rented scooters so that we can travel in Bali more easily. Of course these scooters also has to have surfboard rackets. Ole and I went yesterday surfboard shopping and I managed to buy a used board (6'2 shortie) in a very good condition. It wasn't so expensive, 2,5 million rupias and got all necessaries to surf: trackpad, leash, fins and a couple packs of wax. This completes my escape shuttle from the reality: scooter, surfboard and me! What else do you need to relax? That's all I need at least, don't know about you guys though.
This week we had only two school days, which were only orientation days. We also went to see local orphanage called Seeds of Hope. As an experience, it was very interesting to see the real Balinese culture and life beyond the western Kuta culture. The founders where this old couple, who wanted to help those children, who has no stand in this world by themselves. This old lady in a wheelchair, one of the founder, gave us a speech about helping and caring... truths of life, the important ones that raises your beliefs to this mankind at least a little. It was a touching moment, specially the part, where she told how people who had live there before, comes to visit their "parents" from time to time with their children. That is what we all should be reminded occasionally, cherish your past and the people who has been there for you... so here's to you my family and friends, cheers that you never stop caring!
Last week we also had a couple of pool parties, one in the villa of our classmates and yesterday in a beach lounge at Kuta beach. These parties were really good opportunity for bonding with the people you are going to spend most of the time here. Otherwise the life here in Bali has founded its own tracks: enjoying the spirit and warmth of this country, doing my everyday tasks like laundry and getting to know people over a beer like we finns do. As I am writing this post, I sit in my home's cozy sofa after the first surfing session in Nusa Dua all relaxed and exhausted and starting to feel the happiness that I came to search. Peace out!
