With a full day to explore Cuenca we got up early and headed for breakfast. Hoping to get a few hours of Spanish lessons in we went to the Spanish school but unfortunately they were unable to accommodate us. So we went for a walk along the river. Here we spotted a sign for Belgian waffles which led us into an aviary which had many birds including macaws and falcons. After wandering around here for a while we consulted the guide book as I what else there was to see. There were a couple of museums which looked cool and we wanted to see the inca ruins.
We first went to a museum which had lots of traditional Ecuadorian clothes and musical instruments in we then headed towards the inca ruins which happened to be right by where the aviary was. We decided we would treat ourselves to a waffle after we had been to the next museum! The second museum had lots of art work and traditional ecuadorian things in as well as the shrunken heads! These are human heads of enemies that have been boiled and shrunk, they were quite scary!
Later we headed more into the centre of the town and wandered around looking at the different sites including the plaza and cathedral. We also saw a pet shop with puppies in the window! We then got dinner in an Italian place and utilised the free wifi before heading back to the hostel and to the bus station to catch our bus to Piura.
