On the boarder of Bolivia and Peru is the world's highest altitude lake, sitting at 3,811ft above sea level. This was our stop gap after a heavy xmas and soon to be New Year party scene. We decided to stay in a town called Copacabana on the Bolivian side of the lake. Arriving late afternoon we wanted to get our bearings and wondered around the village settings - a beautiful fishing port (renowned for their Trout) with little market stalls and craft shops everywhere. We found a nice restaurant to dine at of which both of us ordered Trout…. Mine covered in a garlic sauce and Fay's with a tomato one, it was awesome. The best Trout we've ever tasted!!
After a good night's sleep we both headed for a day trip to the Island of the Sun (Isla Del Sol). A beautiful island on Lake Titicaca that the Inca's once owned, with old ruins and archeological artifacts everywhere. The boat ride from Copacabana was 3hr to the north part of the Island where they drop you off and re-collect you from the south part 4hrs later, which leaves you a good hike up and down mountain ranges and through valleys with views to die for! There is a reason for its name…. was sunny allday and being so high up from sea level the sun rays are stronger - both come back tanned me more burnt but was a lovely day just Fay and I Trekking.
