Hey Everyone! So Friday i booked a 2 day tour with adventure tours to kangaroo island (KI). 6.30am saturday the coach picked me up from my hostel and took us to the sealink ferry crossing which took 45mins to get to KI from Cape Jervis. Once on KI, i met Roland (swiss), Marinka (dutch) and Kathrine (german) and we waited for our guide to turn up....except he didnt!!! We later found out that he had got his dates mixed up and thought he had the day off!! Anyway...we piled on to a sealink day tour bus instead with 50 other (old) people - which wasn't what we'd paid for! The bus took us to Cliffords bee honey farm first (real adventure!) for about an hour! The honey ice cream was good i must admit, but we were all pretty mad about our own tour! The next place we went was Pandarna Wildlife park which had Roo's, koalas and birds that had all been rescued and unable to go back to the wild. Got to feed the roo's and hold a joey (awww)! It was at this point that i realised my camera battery was really low and i had a whole weekend of photo oppo's!(This is why there are a select few of every place)! We drove on to Seal Bay - this turned out to be amazing and my fave part of the trip - Its a conservation beach where only guided tours of people can go and see wild australian sea lions - we got to about 8m away from them - breath taking scenery and weather made it all the better! At Seal Bay we heard that another adventure tour guide was coming to pick us up...Simon arrived having been surfing on his day off! He was a god send and a quality bloke! We hopped onto our own 15 seater bus and headed for Vivonne Beach (I forgot to take a pic sorry) it was absolutely gorgeous! Had a swim and cooled off as it was now 39 degrees! He explained to us on tyhe beach how rip curls/tides work which will come in handy! We then drove to where we were staying for the night, Flinders Chase Farm Stay, a family run guesthouse kinda thing which was really nice! Simon started up a massive BBQ and then asked me to take over...the overall group was 14 in total - thats alot of chicken, steaks and sausages! It was good fun though and everyone woke up feeling fine which was a relief! Before we went to bed Si took us on a nocturnal walk around the farm lands, we saw wild Roo's and wallabies - the Roo's were massive, 6ft plus! On the way back to our beds we heard a male koala calling for females - its the scariest sound ever (Gareth - its like the thing from Lost!) In the morning we had breakfast then went to the Remarkable Rocks! The weather was much cooler and overcast which was brill! Admiral Arch was the next stop where we saw NZ Fur seals (rare) playing and just being lazy on the rocks! Before lunch we stopped off at Weir's Cove where the 3 lighthouses on the island used to have their supplies brought to them - there was a massive chase in the rock face about 50m long which the carts used to be pulled up on ropes from the boats with all the food etc. We has another BBQ lunch in the Flinders National park, chicken wraps and salads. We had some wild Roo's come and join us which was funny as they tried to steal any food they could! We then did a 2km hike around the park before driving to Little Sahara where most of us had a go at sandboarding! It was hard work getting to the top of the Dunes but the view was well worth it! I stacked it bigtime on my first go - reckon i'll be finding sand for the next week or so! We finished our trip with Pelican feeding in Kings Cote (my camera now died). This guy has fed the wild pelicans for years there - all the tour groups turn up and sit on the rocks and when he gets the fish bucket out the birds go mental and fly into you and sit on you and s*** on you! I was well out of the way though roland wasnt quite so lucky!! We caught the ferry back to Cape Jervis and hopped onto the big bus back to adelaide! A wicked weekend, even if it didnt start out right, simon was great and the group was a laugh! Well worth it!
