we got into hanoi last night, its a very nice city but there are thousands of motorbikes beeping away and it does your head in, wel go to halong bay on wednesday so thatl be fun.
today we slept a lot actually, probably since our poor nights sleep in the singapore airport the other night which has kind of messed us up a bit. but when we did get up we went to Hoan Kiem Lake in the center of the old quarter of Hanoi. its really beautiful and surprisingly peaceful amidst all of the busy streets and motorbike chaos. so we walked around it and there wer countless older women doing Tai Chi along the banks.
we then crossed the Huc Bridge to a tiny island in the middle of the lake. on the island is the JAde Mountain Temple (Ngoc Son) built for the legends that surround the lakes history. and they have an embalmed tortoise form 1968 in a glass case, also relates to the lakes history. pretty cool but kind of gross at the same time.
we then continued to walk about town and we found the infamous shoe market that is literally countless blocks of shoe shops. it never ends, it was mental to see so many shoes. im sure we will be back tomorrow to purchase a few cheap pairs, but we'll see.
anyways, Hanoi is lovely and the temperature is nice and cool, a nice break from the heat of indonesia. but im sure when we start heading south again it will heat up.
all for now
