Hi Everyone,
After a long drive down we finally made our way to the capital city Wellington. Felt strange being back in a big city but for a capital this had a very relaxed atmosphere about it. Unbeknown to us this weekend was their bi- annual Cuba Street festival. So after spending a few hours in the Te Papa museum we headed out onto the street to watch all the street performers.
The following day was a beautifully hot day so we got on the famous red cable car up to the Botanic Gardens for a wander around in the sun before going to see the Parliament buildings. In the evening there was a parade through the town which was very good, even got soaked in foam at the end, felt like being on a 18 -30 hol again, treated ourselves to a night out as was such a great atmosphere loads of people milling about watching bands on make shift stages and again more street performers. The first bar we went in, we bumped into someone from Swindon, Jade who lives on Nythe and is the owner of Harleys mum, crazy such a small world.
After recovering the next day we went for a walk along oriental parade and then decided to climb up to Mt Victoria which has great views of the city, except being the dumbasses we are,we were walking the way cars go up and after about 1hour of walking in the hot sun and not getting any closer we gave up came back down only to discover there is a path that leads up there and only taken about 1/2 hour, Doh!!! Decided to leave that until we are back in Wellington again. Spent the evening relaxing in the YHA hostel before going back to Bob.
Up early to catch ferry over to South island, cant wait.
Take care
