Hi Everyone,
After leaving Dunedin we made our way up the coast to Christchurch, first stopping for the best fish and chips ever!!! and in Oamaru, a small town which had loads of Victorian style buildings, quite pretty, Matt managed to to make himself fatherless on a old penny farthing bike. By his face in the photo looked rather painful.
Arrived in Christchurch to some lovely hot weather so we spent our first day sunbathing and relaxing in Hagley Park with a picnic was really nice felt like ages since we had spent a day just doing nothing!! Treated ourselves to a pub dinner in the evening and managed to get ourselves a free drink Sweet!!
Following day we went to a wildlife park and saw loads of your typical cool animals. Matt was particulary impressed with the tigers esp when we saw them getting fed. Got to feed giraffes ourselves which was fun they kind wrap their tongue around the stalks and sort of rip off the leaves. Nearly pull your arm out of their sockets. Finally after nearly 4 months in NZ we also got to see the illusive kiwi, really funny looking bird with a really long narrow beak, quite cute though. We finished off the day at the Antartic centre which was really cool (surprisingly). It was great got to go in a room where there was a storm effect the temperature went down to a windchill factor of minus 26, freezing luckily the provide you with all the gear. We thought the best bit iin there though was the ice slide which Matt was fighting over with the kids to get on. They had a pool and outdoor area where they housed rescued blue penguins, they were just the cutest, their for feeding time as well so got to see them all diving and swimming for the dinner.
Wandered around Christchurch quite a bit and did more sunning ourselves in the park, the beaches werent really up to much, quite gutted to leave really but money getting short so time for more work Argh!!!
Take care
