So today I was up at 8am to get the tram into the city to fetch my hire car for the week! I was both excited but also very nervous at the thought of driving full stop!! Got to the car hire place filled out the necessary paperwork then they gave me the keys and directions to the garage. I was pretty shocked when I saw the car, I was expecting a very small Nissan Micra, instead I got a zooped up Ford Fiesta WT! When getting in the car though I realised that I had no idea how to drive an automatic car....uh oh! Luckily a french guy helped me out, basically, r-reverse, p-park, d-drive and don't worry about using the other letters!
So I set out to go and fetch my belongings from the hostel. Unfortunately I took a wrong turning trying to get out of the city and ended up on the opposite side of where I was supposed to be! Finally made it back to the hostel after a lot of swearing and probably some bad driving! Getting from the hostel onto the highway was a lot easier! Not so easy to keep to the 100km per hr (62 mph) speed limit on the highway though! Was a great experience to be driving with such nice scenery with the tunes blasting!
It didnt take too long for me to get to my first stop - Torquay, where I picked up every brochure possible about the Great Ocean Road! Lucky I had a car to store it all! Torquay was a beautiful surfers town with a big beach so I got some chips and attempted to eat them on the beach (without the birds trying to get them!) I stayed there for a while and also headed to the lookout further up. I then carried on driving to Bell's Beach and Jan Juc, similar places although a bit smaller. Somehow got lost and ended up going down a sandy track for 10 minutes....my poor car!
I then carried on driving till I got to Anglesea, my destination for th evening! Upon arriving it looked alot smaller than the other towns and when I asked about an internet cafe, they just laughed and said all the shops shut at 4pm anyway! The hostel was really nice, I would be staying there on my own so I was able to properly chill out. Read through my brochures, had a quick phone call with mother as I felt a bit cut off without the internet then spent the evening watching TV!
