HAMBURG
Hamburg, Germany
Oh Hamburg! From your people to your food, weather & abundance of greenery, A city of culture and contemporary life. It was definitely hard not to fall in love with this amazing city.
We had touched down into Hamburg international airport at 2pm local time, the weather partly cloudy and a perfect cool of 14 degrees Celsius.
When we arrived we had a lovely smiling German man ready to transport us to our hotel. The drive to the hotel was about 30 minutes away and I enjoyed relaxing after a long flight & looking out the window to see what Hamburg had to offer. It was nice to see families playing at the park and many riding bikes, definitely different scenery to my home, Dubai.
We arrived to our Hotel, Le Royal Méridien in the heart of Hamburg, overlooking the calm waters of Aussenalster Lake. The hotel itself was stunning, My room boasted luxury with every detail perfected from the linen, to the amazing bath, heated towel rack, robes and complementary mini bar. I definitely felt spoilt.
We had made arrangements to freshen up and meet in the lobby to go explore and grab some coffee. As we strolled along the lakeside I was amazed by the beautiful architecture of the historic banks, luxurious department stores and countless cafés and restaurants, which all lined the waterfront.
We settled on a little café, I ordered a white chocolate macchiato to keep me warm, whilst we watched the swans & ducks play in the water. We then headed back to the hotel to put on more layers, as it was getting colder before we went out for dinner.
We chose a German beer hall, which was filled with locals that had amazing food & beer. I was so excited to order some roast pork, as pork isn't readily sold in Dubai. It was served with sauerkraut and roasted potatoes & was soooooo delicious. We ended up having a really great night.
We returned to the hotel to relax and I was eager to jump in the bath as I was nearly frozen from the cold! I had such a good nights sleep that night.10 hours!
I was still up and ready early for a morning walk, breakfast & German food shopping at a local market.
The weather was still cool but it was more pleasant than the night before as it was really sunny. I stopped by the local market to stock up on some of my German favorites to bring back with me to Dubai and filled my bags with pretzels, cheeses, sauerkraut, salamis and specialty sausages. On the way home We found an amazing bakery shop filled with baked goods, breakfast and freshly squeezed juices. I couldn't help myself on having a smoked salmon delicacy with horseradish with caviar and some orange juice.
The rest of my day was spent exploring & relaxing getting ready for my flight back to Dubai.
I definitely CANNOT wait for my next Hamburg encounter. It was definitely a trip to remember. See you soon Hamburg. T
