It's 08:44am local time and I'm off again on yet another world tour. This time I'm Africa bound and for those who followed my Southeast Asia blog, yes it is another G Adventures tour- I got 5% off so why not!
This time I'm a solo traveller too. Pippa has swanned off to the states this summer and is there until mid September the lucky devil...
Anyway, I've just got into Jo'burg from London Heathrow. It's been a long journey (even longer than my hell journey to Ho Chi Minh last year). I have a little more distance to travel so it's lucky, I guess, that I feel fine so far. We'll see how I feel once I catch my connecting flight to Livingstone.
A breakdown of my journey so far:
I was up and out at 8:45am yesterday (17th) and from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston I went- (again with legendary Uncle Mike and the Mother to wave me off otherwise it wouldn't have been the same).
My 9:55am train got me into the sweltering sun-splashed capital for around 12 and I was pleasantly surprised (also slightly jealous) to hear that the country was set for record Bahamas style temps over the next few days.
I was stuck in the midday sun and afternoon city rush with not a single plan of action when it actually dawned on me just how long I had to wait. I didn't need to be at the airport for another four hours. What to do!
I aimlessly carried myself and my months worth of luggage through Euston Square and ended up in little gardens by the main road. The shade seemed like the better option at the time so I plonked all my stuff there and drilled at my phone battery listening to music until it was better time to head further afield.
At 16:00pm I'm racing around Heathrow like a headless chicken- I ended up meeting a friend and setting off later than anally planned but im fine, everything is fine!
Infact, the 11hour flight runs smoother than anticipated too- I got the emergency exit (extra leg room) and extra pillows and fleeced blankets. Winning!
Now in South Africa in transit to Zambia - I'm just waiting for my departure gate info to pop up.
I've finally bought myself a portable charger and I'm happy I can now listen to music without stressing about my phone dying. (Much needed device after listening to music in the park earlier). - There's no wifi in this place. My complimentary 30mins was gone in a generous five with me because I uploaded a photo to Instagram.
Well that's me up to date but before I draw a line on this entry, I want to say that the sunrise I witnessed as I pulled into this beautiful country about an hour ago (7am) was absolutely astounding! - best one I've ever ever EVER seen.
I'm in for a treat I know it!
