Our last day in Saigon on Friday was our rest day - a good thing too, as Naomi and I were both sick! Think it was the dodgy eggs we'd had for breakfast the morning before, as ours were a lot more raw than everyone elses. So thank god for Imodium!
We went to lunch, then just chilled, and our five amazing guides from the orphanage came to dinner and drinks with us - we shouted them it, very well deserved, had it not been for them, we'd probably be laying in a gutter somewhere!
We are now in Da Lat - How we made it here alive I do not know! When we got on the bus we thought it was very nice - recliner seats, air conditioning, footrests, water . . . a great place to spend 7 hours . . . at least until they started driving!!
We spent the entire day playing chicken with the traffic. It is right hand drive over here, but we spent more time on the left of the road. The signal to overtake someone here is to honk your horn, so all day, that horn honked and honked!! I had to stop looking out the window, as I could see the trucks coming head on into us from the other direction, before our driver swerved! To top it all off, we saw flashing lights and the cops pulled over our driver, clearly from when he knocked a scooter driver over and kept on driving . . . !!!! I should probably also mention that we were driving on windy steep roads where the only place to go is off a cliff! I tell you, the drivers here are the only ones I've met who can rival Africa!
I loved Da Lat straight away, it isn't as hectic as Saigon, and being in the mountains it is beautiful. Oh, and our room has two massive double beds, a huge spa, TV, is right in the centre of town and is costing us $25 a night per room, including breakfast and free internet! We've also found a great little restaurant down the road - last night I had steak, fried rice and a drink for around $2.50!
Today we are going exploring, want to find a tailor to make some pants, then go to the markets and the lake and wherever else we end up! Tomorrow it is our first day volunteering in the village, so looking forward to that.
