I couldn't leave Oz this time without visiting Tasmania and without much persuasion managed to get Bugs and Lozza to come on a 4 day adventure with me. We hired a car and named it vassle (something to do with vaseline?!) and then drove to Helens Bay where we stopped for a gourmet lunch and watched the black swans swimming around. We carried on to the beautiful coastal resort Scamander and managed to find a hotel on the beachfront with a backpackers attached (and only us in the dorm - perfect!!) As Tasmania is renowned for its wine and cheeses we went straight to the shops and after making our purchases watched the amazing sunset whilst we feasted - awesome. The next day after another early morning yoga session on the deserted beach we made our way to Coles Bay which is the gateway to Wineglass Bay one of the top 10 beaches in the world. After a few games of pool (where I thrashed bugs again!!), pizza and beers we watched yet another stunning sunset - see pics.. The next morning we rose early to trek around the mountain to wineglass bay. It really was beautiful and we had yet another gourmet picnic!! We then made our way to Hobart where we encountered our first (and not last) major freak in Tas. On checking into our dorm we were met with a guy that was completely wasted who started telling us how he understood serial killers (although he wasnt one) and how the best meal he'd ever had was made by a beautiful blonde haired pidgeon who threw knives at him when he'd finished eating. Needless to say we checked into another room pronto.
After getting changed we decided to explore Hobart and had a fabulous seafood meal and then went to a bar that looked like it had some vaguely normal people in it. We were approached by a group of guys from Adelaide wearing baseball hats (BDKs - Brovvas with distinctive klass) and knew straight away they were bound to be losers - we weren't wrong! The leader of the brovvas (who seemed to think he was a hardcore rapper) decided to demonstrate his rapping skills to the cry of a baby terradactil...ive never laughed so much in my life. (he was being deadly serious!!) The most hilarious part was when he thought he'd done something particularly great he'd raise one finger to tap with his mates one finger (a high one, rather than high five) and say waawaawee.....oh dear!!
On our last day we visited a wildlife sanctuary and saw possums, and tasmanian she devils (actually very cute) and then made our way to cradle mountain. After realising we only had 2 hours to get to the airport we took a shortcut through a logging road and with bugs behind the wheel made our plane in the nick of time. An absolutely amazing weekend...
