Tom & Jo's Excellent Adventure
Wow our first Road Trip 3000kms to Broken Hill a town in the middle of nowhere. First stop was White Cliffs, an old opal mining town where we stayed 10m under ground it felt like being a rabbit for the night. The temp stays at 21oc, so in the winter its nice and warm and in the summer its lovely and cool. Went fossicking to see if we could find any opals but alas no luck, not sure in the Roo thats was doing the same had better luck ! Made it to Broken Hill which is a really lovely town really old buildings and full of art galleries. Had a short camping trip to Menindee Lakes where we spent the night with 2 older (60's) couples which turned out to be one of the best nights so far. We drank their beer and vodka, ate their freshly caught yabbies, and even caught a fish with their rod. It was really good. Both e guys are artists (quite famous around Broken Hill) so we even came away with a free painting which is brilliant. Went to the Silver factory and treated myself to a really lovely bangle and another 2 bits of opal. Visited the Miners memorial on top of a big slag heap, and played around on a huge bench. Headed back to Newcastle as we havent got long left in oz now and we need to get moving !
