Day 12
Woke up this morning after a horrible nights sleep from the itchy scratchy bites that are slowly driving me crazy. But even after a horrible night the best thing was we were leaving Honeymoon Bay and heading for Mt Barnett Roadhouse. We were all looking forward to a hot shower, flushing toilets and dinner out.
Got away early and headed back to Kalumburu to top back up on fuel and a snack. Come into town and everything is locked down - apparently something had gone down in town and all shops were shut until calm was restored. So we had to go searching for the store owner to fill us up.
Passed two road trains in the middle of nowhere and on the crazy bumpy roads.
Continued out on the bumpy road - took us three hours to get back to the Mitchell a Falls Turnoff. Had a lunch stop here then continued on the Mt Barnett Roadhouse.
Bitterly disappointed with it - definately not what I'd call a Roadhouse - no meals (closes at 5pm) and the camping area was 7km from the office?? What the - so off we go upto the camping area. No hot water after 7.30 and no flushing toilets???
I had to go up to the facilities to do some washing (girls had run out of clothes after 7 days) - no machines so I wash it in the sink. My liquid has sprung a leak from the rough roads.
Open the kitchen to start on dinner - my washing liquid is all through everything. Cereal and paper towel all ruined. Had another dummy spit and grabbed my frypan and gave the trailer a beating with it (gotta say the frypan doesn't sit flat anymore).
Then, I go up for a shower after the girls go to bed and there is no water AT ALL!!!! So I stand under a little dribble which must have been the last of the water. Then flush the toilet with a bucket - Hema Maps need to take a good look at themselves and do a bit more research before they allocate the icons to these places.
Broome in two days, two days. Heading for Winjana Gorge tomorrow, hopefully, hopefully a proper shower then.
