Travel day! And rainy day so a perfect travel day.
We left Inverness at about 10am and drove alongside Loch Ness stopping at a little pull in viewing point. The breeze was chilly but it was a lovely view across the Loch. We drove down to Drumnadrochit at the Loch Ness Visitor Centre and explored the gift shop but not the centre as they charged for entry.
Continuing on we followed along Loch Ness, wound our along the Calendonia Canal and Loch Oich, down to a hidden little gem, Glengarry Castle Hotel. Here we stopped for a lovely lunch in the Lounge. This beautiful old building was well looked after and had beautiful view across their gardens, water and hills. The service was very fitting for a castle, as all the gents were all quite formal and well-spoken when they brought our tea, lunch, and checked to see if everything was suitable.
The rain eased whilst we were enjoying our lunch, but began heavy just as we were leaving. However, I did manage to get some nice photos of the castle hotel from the car.
As we journeyed westward we stopped so briefly at the Elian Donan Castle just for a quick couple of photos in the light rain. The castle was very busy, despite the rain.
The scenery was so beautiful along the edge of various Lochs and between the different hills and valleys. Several times I found myself smiling and totally enjoying every moment.
We arrived in Broadford on the Isle of Skye at the Broadford Hotel, our home for the next two nights. Our room is in the Lodge which looks very new, even smells a little new and is so lovely. After we settled, we decided to venture out into the drizzly rain to stretch our legs and go for a walk. We walked along the water to the Irishman's Point, it was a nice walk.
We concluded our day with dinner at the Bistro and relaxing in our room making plans for tomorrow. Unfortunately, my hiking boots, left foot, leaked and my socks got a little wet during our walk before dinner. So we did some research and found a hiking/camping store in Portree that we could easily stop at on our way to Neist Point tomorrow. A plan was set.
