so then i was in italy...bellissimo!!!! all the tv was in italian damnit...and no subtitles to speak of except perhaps mtv if you were lucky...so dirty as soon as you pass over the border, even extending to the road crash barriers...and the drivers...talk on their mobile or have their leg up while driving...all over the lanes...you name it...
i was worried about going to venice given we were going on a ferry there...certainly the boat over was none too pleasant although we got on a better (bigger?) one on the way back (seems a random system - hail a ferry wherever you are???)...the weather wasnt crash hot - lots of rain...hence why the ferry over wasnt great - sure in summer its fine...just beat the floods there...we saw the structures to deal with this but wouldnt choose to see venice this way...
hit the square and saw piazza san marco, bridge of sighs and the doges palace...there was a murano glass blowing demonstration although i didnt buy anything there...however there were so many glass things around the square i saw fit to purchase a glass gondola to show what i had done...we took a gondola through the driving rain around venice although the guy did not really want to speak to us...and he didnt sing!!!!! i thought they all sung...specially at 20 euro a pop!!!!! nothing to write home about really...
found an internet cafe on the basis of a hotel staffer and had a solitary hot chocolate...very thick here - my vote is seriously for italy in the hot chocolate stakes...that and the POCKET COFFEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was so addicted to this chocolate and coffee treat...i can freely admit that now...apparently it is not available in oz although i will be looking for it and it is only available in italy during winter...i guess as it had a shot of espresso per bite one would worry about the chocolate melting during summer...
that night we had a venetian diiner...lots of pastas (i think there were like 5 courses?) their pasta is a lot simpler than ours...one or two ingredients at max...and there were two accordian friendly players and a gorgeous young waiter who sought to squeeze anything he could as he waltzed by...wine was free-flowing and we were generally very happy :)
